CAIRO – 30 May 2022: The Cultural Development Fund Sector is preparing to launch the 7th Cairo International Biennale for Arabic Calligraphy, which bears the slogan “Pioneers Renewed in a Hundred Years (1922 - 2022)”.

The biennale will be held from June 6-20, in cooperation with the Egyptian General Assembly for Arabic Calligraphy, the Egyptian Opera House, the Plastic Arts Sector, and the Foreign Cultural Relations Sector.

Head of the Cultural Development Fund Sector Fathi Abdel Wahab said that the biennale’s 7th edition is scheduled to witness the participation of 150 Egyptian and foreign guests and artists, among them are 63 Egyptian artists and 27 foreign artists from Serbia, China, Tunisia, Pakistan, Iraq, Japan, Thailand, Algeria, Indonesia, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan, India, Uzbekistan and Nigeria.

It is worth noting that the 7th edition of the biennale is witnessing a large application rate from Arabic calligraphy artists, especially after the biennale was able to reserve a special place among the artistic recipients worldwide specifically in the arts of Arabic calligraphy. This culminated in UNESCO's announcement of the inclusion of Arabic calligraphy in its list of intangible cultural heritage, describing it as "an expression of harmony and beauty".
