CAIRO – 29 May 2022: Art Talk Gallery in Zamalek will hold an exhibition for the late artist Omar el-Nagdi on May 31 at 6 p.m. Titled “The Phoenix Rises”, the exhibition will run throughout the month of June.

Nagdi (1931-2019) is the founder of the artistic group "Phoenix". He was an Egyptian Abstract Expressionist and Cubist painter, and is considered one of the most famous Egyptian artists for his multifaceted efforts in calligraphy, expression, abstract art, and philosophy.

His sensual surrealist paintings embody the vitality and warmth of people's lives, which are reflected in Egyptian religious and folkloric scenes. His drawings are also a unique pictorial lexicon deeply rooted in Egyptian politics and in the lives of its citizens.

His artworks are filled with elements inherited from the artistic trends of the 20th century, namely Expressionism, Cubism and Brutalism.

Nagdi has won 16 local and international awards. Several of his paintings were sold at international auctions, including the Sarajevo painting, which garnered more than $1 million at Christie’s, Dubai in March 2016.
