CAIRO – 19 April 2022: In April 2021, the whole world witnessed the majestic procession organized by Egypt to transport the royal mummies from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat.

 

The event, which attracted global attention, coincided with the opening of the Mummies Hall and the main hall of the museum.

 

Egypt Today sat with Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization after a year has passed of the inauguration.

 

Dr. Ghoneim said that the number of visitors to the museum during the year exceeded 800,000, which is a record figure.

 

On one weekend, the museum's visitors reached 12,000, and the museum also became a destination for Egypt's guests from all over the world, including presidents, princes, kings and heads of government.

 

Foreign visitors come from different countries of the world, including Latin American countries, while for Egyptian visitors, he said that they come from various governorates of Egypt, whether individually or collectively, or through trips organized by schools, associations and others.

 

It was also found by following the ages of visitors that different age groups are keen to visit the museum, from children and school students to the elderly.

 

Dr. Ghoneim indicated that a set of controls have been put in place to organize visits in light of the precautionary measures followed due to the Corona virus.

 

“Our goal in the museum is not only to provide and display artifacts, but to keep pace with the rest of the public’s interests in general and the youth group in particular by holding various activities and events such as parties, seminars and workshops, taking care to choose arts and activities of an Egyptian civilized nature and holding workshops Work related to traditional crafts and others,” he said.

 

With regard to the process of digital transformation within the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim stressed that the museum, in cooperation with a private sector company, provided a “mobile application” that enables the visitor to learn about the museum, artifacts, the history of royal mummies and others.

 

The museum display was also enriched with a collection of heritage and traditional fabrics of Egypt, specific to the north and south of Sinai, Siwa, the Delta, Upper Egypt, and Nubia, and a unique collection of traditional and traditional clothing for Egyptian farmers and women that contributed to building Egyptian civilization.
