1401 - Tamerlane orders the burning and destruction of Damascus, 3 weeks after the fall of its castle, which refused to surrender.

 

 

 

 

1968 - The Mai Lai massacre occurs during the Vietnam War.

 

 

 

 

1978 - The Red Brigades kidnap former Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro.

 

 

 

 

1989 - Taba returns to Egyptian sovereignty. The Egyptian flag is raised there once again.
