CAIRO – 13 March 2022: On March 13 at 5 p.m., the  celebratory activities and exhibition, "The Return of the Unknown Cartoonist Mostafa Muharram Bey Mokhtar", will be launched at the Egypt Public Library in Giza.

 

 

 

 

The event is organized by the Caricature Memory Project, in cooperation with the Central Administration for Literary Affairs and Competitions of the Supreme Council of Culture, to celebrate the 138th birth anniversary of the late artist Mostafa Muharram Bey Mokhtar.

 

 

 

 

The exhibition runs until March 20 and includes more than 150 rare cartoons of Mostafa Muharram, as well as many photographs and documents, a set of original color drawings all displayed in a public exhibition for the first time, and a collection of anthropomorphic and sculptural works for the late artist, which were executed specially for this event by Emad Abdel Maqsoud, Ragda Jawad Hegazy and Islam Zaki.

 

 

 

 

In the opening ceremony, famous pieces of oriental and western music will be presented, and the Egyptian cartoonists participating in the exhibition, as well as the entities and individuals involved in its organization, will be honored.

 

 

 

 

The celebration also includes many activities over the course of 8 days.

 

 

 

 

The closing ceremony, which will take place on March 20 at 5 p.m., will include a signing ceremony for the second edition of Mostafa Muharram's two caricature books and a musical segment presented by a Rouh Choir.

 

 

 

 

It is worth noting that Mokhtar received his primary education in Cairo, where the family lived in the Sayeda Zeinab area. He traveled to France and obtained a law degree from the Sorbonne University in 1914. He participated in the first caricature exhibition held in Egypt in 1917.

 

 

 

 

Mokhtar passed away on April 26, 1954.
