CAIRO – 17 February 2022: The Mohammad Ali Palace in Shubra received a number of artifacts to adorn its halls and walls ahead of its imminent opening that is set to take place after the completion of its restoration and development.

Among these pieces is a large piano made of ebony wood inlaid with bronze. It rests on interconnecting legs, which are decorated, together with its sides, with metal ornaments.

The piano was especially made by the German company Grotrian-Steinweg in 1865 for Khedive Ismail, then its ownership passed to Prince Hassan son of Khedive Ismail.

The piano had been moved from the Mohammad Ali Palace in Shubra with the grandchildren of Prince Hassan, who inherited it. When noblewoman Nagla, the last of his grandchildren and the last owner of the piano, died, the piano had to be moved from her apartment in Garden City to Prince Mohammad Ali Palace in Manial, until the restoration of Mohammad Ali Palace in Shubra is complete.
