This year housed a number of major archeological events such as: 

1-This year witnessed the formation of the first board of trustees of the Grand Egyptian Museum under the Chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

 

2-This year witnessed many archaeological discoveries in Egypt such as, the discovery of a city in Luxor named ''Sa'od Aton'' and a historic plaque found in Ismailia, as well as the wreckages of a warship from the Ptolemaic era.

 

3-‎ This year witnessed the opening of temporary exhibitions, including one held in Ithra Museum in KSA and another one named “Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” in Houston, USA.

 

4- This year witnessed the launch of two official websites one for the National Museum of the Egyptian Civilization and another one for the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to facilitate the visits of touristic sites.

 

5- Some public figures visited Egypt in 2021 such as Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker, The General Director of UNESCO, the Secretary General of WTO, the Director of World Heritage Center, as well as Ministers of KSA.

 

6-Cairo International Airport Museum (Terminal 2) was inaugurated in May 2021. It has a collection of historical antiques which represents different phases of the great Egyptian history.

 

7-This year witnessed the  participantion of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in many important international conferences and meetings such as UNESCO's World Heritage Committee meetings, OECD meeting which was held in South Korea and Arab Archaeologist conference and the annual American travel agencies conference in Califronia, USA.

 

8-This year witnessed the installation of electronic payment machines in The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, and the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. Also, the launch of the first phase of electronic payment machines for entry tickets to the temples of Luxor and Karnak to facilitate booking methods while visiting the most prominent tourist places in Egypt.

 

 

9-On December 21, the Sun rays align on the sanctuary of the temple of Qasr Qarun; a rare and very special astronomical event.

 

10- The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization launches a mobile application that can be accessed by app store or android.  

 

It has a map of the museum with a summary and some information on the pieces there and can be linked to the ticketing website of the museum.
