CAIRO-20 December 2021: Writer and journalist Omar Elbanouby is preparing to participate in the Cairo International Book Fair at the end of next January 2022 with a new book on the historical relationship between Greece and Egypt in football field which spans more than 100 years.
 
"Football in Drifting Cities.. stories from Alexandria to Thessaloniki" is the name of Elbanouby's  new book, which documents and monitors the participation of the Greek community in Egyptian football since the beginning of the twentieth century until the Greeks departure from Egypt, then the period of professional Egyptian footballers participating in the Greek league.
 
The book also recalls the memories of the Greek football clubs in Egypt and its most prominent players who influenced the history of Egyptian local competitions.
 
Many Ex- Greek super league Egyptian stars will attend the launch of the book including, Magdy Tolba, Hossam Hassan, Ibrahim Hassan, Abdelsattar Sabri, Amir Azmy, Amr Elhalawany and Ahmed Magdy.
 
The book also includes interviews conducted by the writer with experienced Greek and Egyptian football stars, in addition to a set of surprises about the Greek players who left Egypt and starred in Greece during the first half of the twentieth century.
 
The book is presented by Dr. Yasser Ayoub, one of the most prominent sports journalists and media professionals in Egypt and the Middle East, and was published by "Al-Watan" for publishing and distribution, while the cover was designed by Ahmed El-Sayed.
 
"Football in Drifting Cities" is considered Omar Elbanouby's third publication in the field of football after the success of his "100 years of the dream" and "General Mahmoud El-Gohari" in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
 
Omar Elbanouby, a writer, sports journalist and academic researcher in the field of media, started his career as a media coordinator for the English club Hull City in Egypt and the Arabic-speaking countries, and worked as director of the media department at Gouna FC for two seasons in Egypt.
