Long List of the Sheikh Zayed’s Prize in Literature announced

 

CAIRO – 7 December 2021: The Sheikh Zayed Book Award at the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, revealed the long list of the literature branch eligible for the award in its sixteenth session.

 

It is worth noting that the Arts branch attracted 852 works in this year's session, which is an increase of 46 percent in the number of nominations compared to the previous session.

 

The long list of the branch of literature included 15 works by novelists, writers and poets from nine Arab countries, namely: Emirates, Iraq, Egypt, Oman, Morocco, Mauritania, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

 

Works in the "Literary Texts" category had the highest number of long list titles for the Arts branch with 13 nominations.

 

It is noteworthy that the Sheikh Zayed Book Award honors the outstanding achievements of creators and thinkers in the fields of literature, arts and humanities in Arabic and other languages and provides new opportunities for Arabic-speaking writers.

 

It also honors authors who write about Arab culture and civilization in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian.

 

The two competing Egyptians are Mohamed Yousif el-Gharabawy and Ezzat el-Qamhawi.
