CAIRO - 5 July 2021: Google honors late veteran Palestinian painter Maliha Afnan by putting her picture on its homepage on July 5.
The acclaimed Arab painter was born in the Palestinian city Haifa to Iranian parents.
She also lived in Kuwait from 1963 to 1966 then she moved to Beirut with her family in 1949.
In 1971, Afnan inaugurated her first solo exhibition organized by the American artist Mark Toby at the Basel Gallery,
Afnan art works are displayed in a number of acclaimed museums around the world including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the British Museum in London, in addition to the Written Art Collection in Germany, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the BAII Collection in Paris.
Afnan used in her work Indian ink and mixed materials on paper or in oil pastels.
She painted letters that were similar to part of a wedge-shaped line on a burnt red-brown background.
The many shades of color Afnan used in her art work indicated isolation, confusion and alienation.
Her art works have appeared mainly in France and London.
The legendary Palestinian painter died at the age of 80, leaving behind her a great legacy of immortal paints.
