Egypt’s Grand Egyptian Museum team succeed in the 1st trial to test vehicles that will be used in transferring Khufu Solar Boat

CAIRO - 18 June 2021:A team from the Grand Egyptian Museum succeeded in the first trial conducted to test the vehicles that will be used in the transferring of the first Khufu Solar Boat from its current location.

Major General Atef Miftah, general supervisor of the project of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the surrounding area, explained that this trial run was the first in a series of trials that will be conducted by a team of engineers and and archeologists from the GEM in cooperation with the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
 
He added that this is done to ensure the safe transfer of the solar boat.
 
 
 
He said that specialized remotely controlled smart vehicles, imported from Belgium, will be used in the transportation of the Solar Boat, after carefully protecting and securing it during its transportation.
 
Dr. Al-Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Archaeological Affairs at the GEM, said that preparations of the first Khufu Solar boat for transportation has been complete.
 
 
He added that archaeological work related to dismantling, protecting and packaging the Solar Boat’s delicate pieces has also been complete.
