CAIRO – 1 June 2021: On June 3 at 8 p.m., Sayed Darwish Theater in Alexandria will host an evening of the musical masterpieces of the legendary late musician Baligh Hamdy.

The concert will be presented by the Alexandria Opera Troupe for Arabic Music and Singing, led by Maestro Ihab Abdel Hamid.

It is noteworthy that Baligh Hamdy was born on October 7, 1931 and mastered the lute at the age of nine. He joined the Fouad I Institute for Music (now the Arab Music Institute) and then turned to composing.

His star shone in 1957 when he presented his first tunes to Abdel Halim Hafez in the hit “Tkhonoh”. Then he collaborated with Egyptian and Arab music stars, including Umm Kulthum, Warda, Fayza Ahmed, Shadia, Nagat, Sabah, Mayada al-Hanawi, Aziza Galal, Ali el-Haggar, Hani Shaker, Mohammad Rushdi, Samira Said and Latifa.

Hamdy’s melodies were distinguished by simplicity and ease. One of his titles was the “King of Music”.

He passed away on September 12, 1993.
