CAIRO – 6 July 2017: El-Sakia Cinema at El-Sawy Culture Wheel will be hosting a film night on Monday at 8 pm for the British Film Director, Laila Khan. In her first visit to Egypt, two of her films ‘Stolen Water’ and ‘6 Cup Chai’ will be screened, Sawy Culture Wheel announced on Facebook.

‘6 Cup Chai’ tells the story of a boy named Chotu who lives in the slums and works as a Tea Seller in Mumbai's poorest poverty pocket, Dharavi. He has a simple wish - to go to school like the other children.



‘6 Cup Chai’ screened at the Festival de Cannes in 2014 and it had an on-board exhibition on British Airways, Lufthansa and Royal Jordanian Airlines.

It also played at Stuttgart Indian Film Festival, Third Eye Asian Film Festival in Mumbai, London Short Film Festival and had a Swiss premiere at the Fribourg International Film Festival. The film won a Venus de Badalona Award for Best Values at FILMETS Badalona Film Festival in Spain, Lebtivity.com reported .

‘Stolen Water’ is a short documentary about stolen water in Jordan; it was also screened at the Cannes Short Film Corner 2016.

Laila Khan is a British cinema director of Indian origin. She is founder and CEO of Brainworks Picture Company based in London. According to El-Sawy Culture Wheel event page, she participated in the Stuttgart Festival for Indian film, Third Eye Festival for Asian films in Mumbai, Gaibour International Film Festival, the London Festival for Short-Featured Film, and in the Swiss Fribourg International Film Festival.
