CAIRO – 5 April 2021: In line with the UNESCO Director-General's visit to Egypt to attend in the royal mummies parade, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, the Governor of Alexandria and the Director General of UNESCO visit a number of archaeological sites in the city of Alexandria.

 

 

Governor of Alexandria Mohamed al-Sharif  received on April 4, Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay and her accompanying delegation, during their visit to Alexandria, which came as a part of the current visit by the Director-General of UNESCO to Egypt at the invitation of the Minister of Tourism And the antiquities to attend the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade, which was held on April 3, in a great and dazzling way praised by the countries of the world.

 

 

 

The visit included a quick tour, during which the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, the Governor of Alexandria and the Director-General of UNESCO checked out a number of archaeological and tourist sites in the city, including Qaitbay Citadel and the Morsi Abu al-Abbas area in Bahri.

 

 

 

Governor of Alexandria Mohammad al-Sharif  was keen to gift the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay the key to the city of Alexandria due to the great efforts made by the organization to the archaeological and heritage sector in Egypt.

 

 

The governor also emphasized the great efforts made by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in this regard through the development of archaeological museums in Alexandria.

 

 

During the visit, the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay expressed her happiness at the visit, and her amazement at the monuments that she saw in Alexandria.

 

 

She was accompanied by Deputy Governor Jacqueline Azar, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziry and Director of the UNESCO Regional Office Ghaith Fariz.
