CAIRO – 4 July 2017: British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran announced that he has quit Twitter trying to work out why people dislike him so much after experiencing streams of abusive comments.

He told U.K. newspaper The Sun, “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” adding that “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it.”
Sheeran said that he often only finds people saying negative things on the internet, and Twitter is a platform for that.

The star, who has 19 million followers, says he will keep the account open, but it will only share automatic updates from his Instagram page from now on, the BBC reported

The 26-year-old Shape of You singer said he prefers to get his reality checks from close friends and family. He explained, “I have people like my dad who will have a conversation with me and I don’t have to have someone calling me a whatever.”
Sheeran will still read public feedback on his favorite websites, which are more positive, according to The Sun.

Sheeran said fans of the American pop star Lady Gaga were some of those responsible for the abuse. “[They] read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all,” The Guardian reported.
The singer’s third album Divide is the year's biggest-seller, dominating the charts and radio around the world. In the U.K., every song on the record made it to the top 20 of the singles chart, while the lead single, Shape Of You, spent 14 weeks at number one, the BBC stated.
