CAIRO – 12 March 2021: Adopting an approach to diversify energy resources in the country’s mix, Egypt owns the second largest wind energy plant in Jabal al-Zeit in the Red Sea Governorate.

 

The plant has a capacity of 580 megawatts.

 

et provides in the below lines information about the plant:

 

 

1- The plant consists of 3 projects.

 

2- The project includes 390 wind turbines.

 

3- The total capacity of the Jabal Al-Zait wind station is 580MW.

 

4- The first project includes 120 turbines with a capacity of 240 megawatts, of which 100 turbines have been connected to the national electricity network.

 

5- The second project includes 110 turbines with a capacity of 220 MW, connecting 75 turbines to the network with a capacity of 150 MW.

 

6- The third project includes 60 turbines with a capacity of 120 MW, which are still under construction.

 

7-The cost of the Jabal Al-Zayt wind power plant is about 12 billion Egyptian pounds.

 

8- The plant contains a system to monitor migratory birds through the radar to stop the turbines when they pass and restart them afterwards. It is a system used for the first time in the world, in addition to the total capacity of the station is the largest in the world with a capacity of 580 megawatts.

 

9- The plant will be fully completed and linked to the national electricity grid next June.
