CAIRO – 11 March 2021: In a meeting with Public Enterprise Minister Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy stated Thursday that the electric vehicle charging stations shall be located in public and private parking lots in Greater Cairo.

Shaarawy added that private operators have to return the place into its original status after installing the charging units, and that they have to be in charge of securing them and not the municipalities.

The minister of public enterprise underlined that the private sector is required to install and operate 3,000 dual charging units within three years. He added that the Ministry of Electricity will introduce the necessary infrastructure in the designated sites, and set a competitive price for electricity and charging fees.

The officials of the ministries of public enterprise and local development as well as the governors of Cairo and Giza will convene again to endorse the final list of sites where electric vehicle charging stations will be installed.
