CAIRO – 10 March 2021: Egypt reviewed, during its participation in the Berlin Tourist Stock Exchange, the impact of new archaeological discoveries on inbound tourism.

This came during the participation of Deputy Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Egyptian Tourism Affairs Ghada Shalaby in a dialogue session, on Tuesday, entitled "Destinations Management Forum and Thought Leaders", on the sidelines of the Berlin Tourism Exchange - which is scheduled to last until March 12.

Shalaby indicated that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities broadcast a number of videos about these archaeological discoveries and the new museums that were opened during 2020, as well as launching a number of virtual tours to some museums and archaeological sites through the official pages of the ministry on the Internet.

During the session, the Deputy Minister discussed the precautionary measures and health safety controls applied in tourist and hotel facilities, museums and archaeological sites to ensure safe travel to Egyptian tourist destinations.

She emphasized the close cooperation between the Ministries of Tourism and Antiquities, Health and Population, and business partners from the private tourism sector to contain the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the Egyptian tourism sector.

Shalaby indicated that the Ministry issued a health safety certificate and the requirement to obtain it for operating hotel and tourism facilities, in order to ensure that all establishments adhere to the application of preventive measures.

She pointed out the importance of providing the necessary assistance to pass this period, and working to maintain trained workers in preparation for the resumption of travel and the return of tourism to its rates at the end of the pandemic, in addition to the importance of continuing tourism destinations in communicating with their main tourism-exporting markets.

For his part, director of the central office overseeing Germany, Switzerland and Austria at the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion, Mohamed Farag, said that the ministry’s participation in this important annual tourism event comes within the framework of the ministry’s efforts to restore tourism movement coming to Egypt from various countries of the world, especially from the German market.

Farag stated that during the activities of the Stock Exchange, professional meetings with tour operators, airlines and various tourism unions will be intensified to discuss developments that have occurred in the tourism market, in light of the positive indications that most countries of the world are keen to vaccinate their citizens against the emerging coronavirus.

He pointed out that the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Khaled Al-Anani, will hold a number of professional meetings with tour operators, during which the touristic and archaeological potentials of the Egyptian tourist destination will be reviewed.
