CAIRO – 19 January 2021: Nasr automobile company signed two on Tuesday with Chinese company Dongfeng Motor to qualify Nasr factory to produce electric cars.

The signing was attended by Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Liao Liqiang and Minister of Public Business Sector Hesham Tawfik.

Tawfik said the signing was preceded by much effort for six months to install charging stations of electric cars across the country and agree with the three electric vehicle charging companies in Egypt on a fee that can compete with the price of fuel.

So far, 300 electric cars operate in Egypt and about 400 charging stations are available. The plan, according to Tawfik, is not only to produce electric cars, but to turn the country into a hub for the industry. In such case, fuel consumption will be reduced as well as harmful emissions.
