CAIRO – 21 April 2020: Egypt’s sustainable development plan for the next fiscal year 2020/2021 aims to develop 7 unsafe and random areas, at a cost of LE 415 million, according to Minister of Planning Hala el-Saeed.

Saeed added that it’s also targeted to develop 48 unsafe areas on private property lands that include 23.5 thousand housing units at a total cost of LE 945 million.

She also pointed to targeting the development of an area of 5.5 thousand feddans of unplanned areas at a cost of LE 7.6 billion, completion of 29 markets, and the development of 23 markets at a cost of LE 1 billion.

The minister emphasized that the plan took into account commitment to the state’s goals for spatial justice and enhancing the role of public investment in social protection, by increasing investments directed to the governorates and regions most in need by taking into account the existing development gaps.

She noted the implementation of the second phase of the "Decent Life" initiative in 357 new villages in 14 governorates, as well as the completion of projects under implementation in the villages of the first phase of the initiative (143 villages), at a cost of LE 8 billion to reach a coverage rate of 56 percent for the residents of the most needy villages.

She also referred to “Survival Ships” initiative, which covers 40 villages, at a total cost of LE 250 million, in the framework of facing illegal immigration.
