CAIRO – 16 April 2020: The Ministry of Electricity has provided several facilitations for citizens willing to switch to pre-paid meters through installments and instant installation.

Citizens are advised by the government to make the move and switch from the traditional meters, because the pre-paid meters reflect the actual consumption without the current errors in domestic electricity readings and bills.

Egypt Today provides steps through which citizens can switch to pre-paid meters:

1- Submitting a request to change the meter at the electricity distribution company in his district.

2- Provide the ownership certificate of the residential unit where the new meter will be installed.

3- Provide a photocopy of the national ID of the owner of the traditional meter.

4- Pay the cost of the pre-paid meter if the old one has any error or is broken.

A total of 8.5 million pre-paid meters have been so far installed across the country. The ministry targets installing 28.7 million pre-paid meters as part of its plan.

Egyptians will be able to re-charge their pre-paid electricity meters through NFC feature via bluetooth at any time and from any place.

The Ministry of Electricity will make an application called “Easy” available at both the App Store and Play Store for all nine electricity distribution companies nationwide.
