CAIRO – 10 April 2020: Egypt’s early precautionary measures that have been taken to confront the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and save our lives make all of us proud, Egyptian businessman Ayman al Gamil said, Friday.
He added that Egypt took several precautionary measures that averted the Egyptians to enter a 'dark tunnel' which many other major countries could not avoid, leading to the infection of nearly one million people worldwide.
“Our trust in the huge efforts exerted by the government and President Abdel Fatah al Sisi, should not let us forget our main role and direct responsibility towards ourselves and our communities through following the self-protecting and isolation instructions along with respecting the curfew timing” Gamil said in statement.
The Egyptian businessman highlighted Sisi’s tour on the construction site of which he was inspecting preventive measures against coronavirus. The video that went viral on social media showed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi inspecting, with light security, one of the construction sites to make sure the laborers abide by coronavirus precautionary measures.
The president affirmed the need to stick to the preventive measures to avoid infection with the novel virus, including wearing face masks and avoiding large gatherings.
The video also showed Sisi reprimanding officials at the site for not providing workers with masks. “Orders must be followed. Why aren’t these people wearing masks? How much are they even paid in a day? Because if they had to stay home, how would they secure their living,” Sisi fervently says in a video of the incident.
“I will pass by here again, and if I do not see the measures applied, there will be a big problem,” the president added before leaving the site.

Gamil affirmed that “these kinds of measures make us [Egyptians], feel safe and confidant that the government is taking the situation seriously and that we are in a better situation than many other countries which did not take the needed measures on the right timing”.
“Having several scenarios to what we may face, and how the currant COVID-19 situation will develop after assessing all possibilities, kept us within the safe zone whether on the level of total infected cases or the number of deaths,” Gamil explained.
He further asserted these precautionary measures and the ability to confront the pandemic will always need to be backed by “social responsibility” and preserving a “physical distance” between each other.
“The efforts and measures taken by the state on the economic, health and security levels must be followed by our efforts to protect ourselves until we all go through this difficult period, with the least possible losses.” Gamil concluded.
In statements to "Al-Hikaya" talk show on MBC Masr Channel on April 7, The World Health Organization Representative in Egypt, John Jabbour, said that Egypt implements strong responsive measures to fight the coronavirus epidemic.
He added that that Egypt could have different scenarios evolving from the current situation. “I affirm that if Egyptians do not follow the government's instructions, the situation will take a turn that does not come in the favor of anyone,” Jabbour added.
He further noted that the international situation is already dangerous, and cannot be underestimated; however, the most important thing is to keep the “physical distance” between each other.

In statements to "Al-Hikaya" talk show on MBC Masr Channel, Jabbour said that Egypt could have different scenarios evolving from the current situation.
On Friday, Egypt’s Health Ministry announced recording new 95 COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of deaths in Egypt to 1794.
On Wednesday, Egypt extended a nationwide night-time curfew by two additional weeks, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said in a televised interview, as the country is tailoring measures to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the country.
The prime minister’s speech also included a number of key messages and decisions, which includes the following:
- Egypt will extend a nationwide night-time curfew by 15 days until April 23
- The Ministry of Interior will ensure enforcing the curfew with no excuses
- The health of Egyptian citizen is very important and the government is taking a number of measures to survive the crisis
- The coming period will see more sterilization procedures for all state facilities
- Citizens must be aware lest the number of cases suddenly double
- The next three weeks will see an increase in injuries
- Salaries of the Prime Minister and state ministers will be deducted by 20 percent for three months to support precarious employment
- Prime Minister: We pray to god not to reach a critical situation
- Public commitment is the most important factor in confronting COVID-19
- Egypt remains within the safe zone of containing the pandemic so far
- The decision to close down cafes, malls, casinos, night clubs, bars and amusement parks will also be extended until April 23
- Airports will also stay closed until the end of the month
“Our projections for this week were 120-150 cases daily. There will be increases in the number of infections in the coming two or three weeks…but the more important thing is that the rise is slight and gradual,” the prime minister added.
CAIRO - 8 April 2020: "President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's decisions to confront the economic repercussions of the emerging coronavirus crisis, is a rescue collar for the Egyptian economy, Businessman Ayman Al-Gamil affirmed Wednesday. Gamil pointed out that these decisions came in light of the recession that the world is currently going through as transportation, aviation, and inter-country industries have been suspended.
