CAIRO - 19 February 2020: Egypt and Sweden have discussed means to strengthen cooperation and draw on the European country’s expertise in transport and road safety domains.

Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir on Wednesday met Swedish Minister for Infrastructure Tomas Eneroth on the sidelines of their participation in the 3rd Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Sweden, according to a press release by the Transport Ministry here tonight.

They discussed how to limit traffic-related deaths with the support of the Swedish know to help Egypt be the first country in Africa and the Middle East to benefit from Sweden’s Vision Zero Academy which has introduced a new approach to road safety.

The ministers also reviewed investments of Swedish companies in Egypt, namely Volvo and Scania, as well as available opportunities to cooperate with Egypt in the fields of transport and road safety through implementing a Bus rapid transit (BRT) system project.

Wazir highlighted development achieved by Egypt in design and construction of roads under mechanisms adopted by the Egyptian government on that score.

He invited Eneroth to visit Egypt to get acquainted with national projects being carried out across the country.

The Swedish minister welcomed cooperation with Egypt in the fields of technology and road safety as well as the fifth generation of mobile technologies - 5G.
