CBE: Bank deposits hit LE 3.911 trillion by end May

CAIRO - 27 August 2019: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) on Tuesday announced a decrease in bank deposits by around LE 20 billion by the end of May to reach LE 3.911 trillion compared to LE 3.931 trillion in April.

The total governmental deposits at banks went down by LE 23.6 billion to reach LE 591.8 billion, including LE 482.4 billion in local currency and around LE 109.4 billion in foreign currency, the CBE said in a report, a copy of which was obtained by MENA.

Meanwhile, the total non-governmental deposits at banks until May increased by LE 4 billion by the end of May to hit LE 3.320 trillion compared to LE 3.316 trillion in April, the report added.

The total value of the non-governmental deposits in local currency stood at LE 2.594 trillion in May, while non-governmental deposits in foreign currency reached LE 725.8 billion, the report noted.
