PARIS - 27 February 2019: A French website specialized in environment and sustainable development stressed that Egypt is moving towards being an important energy hub and a main player in liquefied natural gas production in the Middle East depending on its gas and solar energy potentials and strategic location.

Enviro2b expected that Egypt would be able to secure 22 percent of European energy needs by 2025.

It shed light on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's efforts to diversify energy sources in the country and its natural gas reserves, now estimated at 2,000 billion cubic meters.

The website stressed that the discovery of the offshore Zohr gas field by Italy's Eni company in 2015 placed Egypt on the natural gas producers map.

It also highlighted the projects carried out by Egypt to increase renewable energy's contribution to power production to 42 percent.

The website expected that within a few years Egypt will be able to rely on nuclear power to secure growing demands on energy for economic growth.
