CAIRO - 31 December 2018: Finance Minister Mohamed Ma'eet has decided to amend some articles of a law on the collection of government dues, taxes and customs.

Under the amended law, all government dues, taxes and customs exceeding LE 500 pounds should be paid electronically as of May 1, 2019, a statement by the Finance Ministry said Sunday.

Checks that will be submitted to the different government bodies before May 1 should be exempted from electronic payment, the statement made it clear.

The minister's decision comes in line with efforts to fully activate the government electronic payment and collection system, it noted.

As many as 476 payment machines have already been installed at the different administrative bodies affiliated with the Finance Ministry, plus 284 others at six Egyptian universities, the statement said.

The new electronic system is hoped to tangibly contribute to improving the performance of the Egyptian economy, it added.
