CAIRO - 10 June 2018: Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Kabil said Sunday that 200 palm farms in Siwa have been granted internationally-recognized organic produce certificates in line with European and American terms and legislation.

The organic produce certificates will sure make it easier for owners of palm farms to market their products, said Kabil in a statement.

He added that this would also enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian dates at the regional and international levels and will help producers tap international markets.

The government pays big attention to the dates sector, which can very well contribute to improving economic growth rates and exports, as well as creating jobs for youth, the minister said.

Egypt is the world's number one in terms of date production with 17.7 percent, Kabil made it clear.

Exports of Egyptian dates during Q1 of 2008 amounted to 30 thousand tons worth 29.4 million compared to 17.8 thousand tons during the corresponding period last year with a 70 percent increase.
