CAIRO – 2 May 2017: Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar signed an executive agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representative, Teruyuki Ito on providing financial assistance to develop the educational sector under strategic Japanese-Egyptian partnership.

The agreement signing was witnessed by Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr who also signed a number of the MOUs with Takehiro Kagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, according to a Tuesday press statement.

During the meeting, Nasr hailed Japanese-Egyptian cemented relations, confirming that the upcoming period will witness more MOUs signed between the two countries.

According to the signed MOUs, the ministry managed to secure a JPY 10.192 billion, equivalent to $90 million on propping up sectors of equation and health which enables the ministry to consequently provide more funds on scholarships to Japan, adding that Japan will receive 2500 Egyptian trainees over the five upcoming years.

The Japanese ambassador, on his part, confirmed his country’s keenness to enhance the bilateral relations.
