CAIRO – 3 March 2018: President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi said that Egypt eyes more cooperation with the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei and seeks to increase the company’s activities in the country over the coming period.

This came during Sisi’s meeting with Huawei chief executive Guo Ping and Huawei Egypt CEO Terry Liu on Saturday.

Presidency’s spokesperson Bassam Rady said that the Huawei executive expressed his company’s keenness to enhance cooperation with the Egyptian government, especially in light of the accelerated growth rates in Egypt and the huge development projects currently underway in all fields.

The executive also hailed the country’s communications sector and its advantages and praised the state’s efforts to develop this sector.

He also reviewed Huawei’s efforts in developing its projects in Egypt, particularly the international center for technical support, which currently employs 300 Egyptians. The center is now working on increasing this number to 1,000.

The executive also reviewed a plan to establish another center that will serve as a platform for providing technical support in Africa and the Middle East, saying that choosing Egypt for this project reflects the company’s confidence in the investment climate in the country.

He also confirmed the company’s keenness to increase its investments in Egypt in the coming period.

The presidential spokesman added that the meeting also discussed cooperation opportunities between Egypt and the Chinese company, reviewing the initiatives taken by Egypt in recent years with the aim of embedding technology across the country.

Sisi further explained Egypt’s vision of developing the county’s new cities into “smart cities” and efforts to transform into a “digital community”.

The president also stressed on the importance of cooperating with the company in training youth on the different fields of technology.
