Egyptian, German Agriculture ministers inaugurate 1st joint forum

CAIRO – 11 April 2017: Christian Schmidt, German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, and his Egyptian counterpart, Abd El- Moneim El Banna, inaugurated Tuesday the first Egyptian-German Agribusiness Forum, with the aim of boosting sustainable agriculture and cooperation.


The event, organized by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC) in cooperation with the German-African Business Association, is held on the occasion of Schmidt's visit along with a business delegation to Egypt.


It aims to promote efficiency and sustainability in the agricultural sector and to offer investment opportunities, including the Egyptian government’s 1.5 million feddan project .

"For many years, the German-Arab Chamber has been active in the promotion of Egyptian agricultural products and processed food. As the official representative of world‘s leading food fairs fruit Logistika, Green Week and Anuga, we coordinate the Egyptian pavillions, promoting Egyptian food products on the international markets," Chamber CEO Andreas Hergenroether said in his speech.


Egypt’s agricultural exports to Germany grew an impressive 10.7 percent from 2015 to 2016.


Fruits and vegetable exports from Egypt to Germany recorded $124 million in 2016. "This indicates an increase of 13 percent in comparison to 2015," he added.


Fruit and vegetable exports from Germany to Egypt registered €3.3 million in 2016, according to Hergenroether.
