CAIRO - 28 March 2017: Amazon has acquired Souq.com, the largest e-commerce platform in the Middle East, according to an

official statement

released Tuesday by CEO and Co-Founder of Souq.com Ronaldo Mouchawar.

Mouchawar said the deal is “a huge achievement for us, and we always strive to empower our partners, dealers, team, entrepreneurs and everyone in Souq.com.”

He added that the website aims to provide a seamless experience for e-commerce in the Arab world. It was launched 12 years ago “to connect more people with more products and improve living standards across the region in order to achieve the best shopping experience,” he said.

Joining the Amazon family will help Souq.com achieve greater growth according to Mouchawar, as it will provide a wider range of products through global resources.

He also said the staff will remain in position after the acquisition.
