CAIRO – 2 March 2017: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and German Chancellor Angela Merkel inaugurated the first phase of the Siemens power plants Thursday.

The first phase of the power plants, located in Beni Suef, Borollos, and the New Administrative Capital, will add a generation capacity of 4,800MW to the national grid and is expected to be completed and connected to the grid by the end of October 2017.

The contract is the biggest Siemens has ever had. Each unit costs 2 billion euro and every station has four generation units dependant on natural gas. The plants are expected to meet 50 percent of local demand.
