CAIRO – 24 August 2017: State-owned Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals (Sidpec) is now working at full capacity after annual maintenance works of the factory finished, Minister of Petroleum Tarek El-Molla said on Thursday.

The maintenance came to address effects of the fire that broke at the cooling unit of the factory, Molla said in a statement.

Sidpec is affiliated to the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company that falls under the authority of the Ministry of Petroleum.

The petrochemicals sector in Egypt is expected to boom as the Ministry of Petroleum entered in a partnership with the Ministry of Public Business Sector to establish a petrochemical plant in Suez governorate at a total cost exceeding $4 billion.

Moreover, the Ministry signed a protocol with the Japanese manufacturer Toyota to undertake a feasibility study for the industrial technology needed for the project.

The feasibility study will take 28 weeks. The Suez plant is set to depend on the refineries affiliated to the petroleum sector in the Suez governorate.
