Orascom Construction sets up largest student housing in U.S.

CAIRO – 22 August 2017: Orascom Construction Limited’s subsidiary, the Weitz Company, has completed the largest student housing development in College Station, Texas on 2.2 million square feet, a Monday statement said.

The community was organized through a public-private partnership between the Texas A&M University System, Texas-based developer Servitas and Weitz, and was constructed in less than two years.

“Most projects of this size have a much longer duration. To finish in two years, we engaged our in-house experts and subcontractor partners early in the design-build process and also implemented Lean construction practices, keeping all parties fully committed throughout the building process,” The Weitz Company Vice President Shane Bauer said.

Texas A&M University System Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs Phillip Ray noted that the partnership has resulted in the best student housing development in the country, and maybe in the world, to be established without any debts being incurred by the university.
