CAIRO - 14 August 2017: Six companies affiliated to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) have violated the anti-trust Protection of Competition Law, the Egyptian Competition Authority announced Monday.

After receiving complaints from consumers stating that the power distribution companies are solely selling electric meters, the authority started investigating the allegations in cooperation with the Egyptian Electric Utility & Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA).

“There is no legal obligation stating that consumers shall get power meters from the state’s electricity distribution companies,” the competition authority said.
The authority’s investigations proved that the six distribution companies are having a “dominating position” in the market.
