CAIRO – 26 July 2026: The European Commission has approved the disbursement of €1.5 billion as the second installment of the second tranche of the European Union’s budget support program for Egypt.
The payment is part of a €5 billion macro-financial assistance package allocated to Egypt and follows continued coordination by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates to oversee the program’s implementation.
The latest disbursement follows a €1 billion installment paid in January 2026 under the second tranche, in addition to an initial €1 billion tranche released in 2024.
The decision comes within the framework of the Egypt-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, announced in March 2024, and reflects the progress achieved across political, economic and security cooperation.
According to the statement, the disbursement highlights the importance of the partnership in supporting Egypt’s economic stability and sustainable development efforts.
It also reflects the EU’s confidence in Egypt’s ongoing economic reforms and recognition of its role in supporting regional and international security and stability.
The EU further acknowledged Egypt’s position as a key pillar of stability in the Middle East, the Southern Mediterranean and Africa amid growing regional and global challenges.
Egypt has intensified its engagement with EU institutions in recent months to secure the support needed to implement the different pillars of the strategic partnership.
The efforts are aimed at advancing the shared interests of both sides and expanding cooperation across priority sectors
