CAIRO – 26 July 2026: Egypt’s petroleum sector is working with British energy major BP to bring the North Fayoum-4 well in the Mediterranean Sea into production soon, with an estimated output of around 80 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
The project supports the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to boost domestic gas production, make better use of existing infrastructure and reduce Egypt’s dependence on imported energy.
Production is set to resume following the successful completion of a new sidetrack under BP’s drilling program in Egypt. The operation allowed the company to access new geological formations and restore output without drilling an entirely new well.
The development highlights how advanced engineering solutions can unlock additional production quickly and at a lower cost while maximizing the value of existing wells and production facilities.
Project teams also overcame the technical challenges involved in restarting the well, completing the work in line with strict safety and operational efficiency standards.
The targeted formations were reached at depths of more than 3,000 meters, clearing the way for production to begin and for new gas volumes to be added to the national network.
The additional supplies are expected to help meet domestic demand, lower the country’s energy import bill and strengthen Egypt’s energy security.
