Egypt’s exports of building materials, refractories and metallurgical products increased by 36 percent in 2025, reaching $14.875 billion compared with $10.872 billion a year earlier.
The sector accounted for around 30 percent of Egypt’s total non-oil exports, while shipments during the first five months of 2026 amounted to $4.803 billion.
The figures were reviewed during a meeting between Hatem El-Nawawy, CEO of the Export Development Fund and the General Organization for Export Development, and representatives of the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories and Metallurgical Industries.
Discussions focused on opportunities to accelerate export growth and improve the operating environment for exporting companies, supporting the government’s broader targets for increasing Egyptian exports.
El-Nawawy said the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade is implementing an integrated export development strategy aimed at diversifying export destinations, entering new markets and maximizing the benefits of Egypt’s trade agreements.
The strategy also focuses on increasing the value added of Egyptian products, strengthening their competitiveness and expanding their access to regional and international markets.
He described building materials, refractories and metallurgical industries as strategic export sectors, supported by Egypt’s strong industrial base and the availability of raw materials.
El-Nawawy said the coming phase would require greater emphasis on deepening local manufacturing, raising value added and improving the quality and efficiency of Egyptian products.
These measures are expected to enhance the sector’s competitiveness and support further expansion in overseas markets, particularly across Africa and Europe.
The meeting also covered several priority areas, including making greater use of Egypt’s natural resources, expanding local manufacturing, improving access to the export rebate program and increasing support for participation in international exhibitions.
Officials said these efforts would help deliver sustainable growth in exports of building materials, refractories and metallurgical products.
Ahmed Hafez, Chairman of the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractories and Metallurgical Industries, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to continued coordination with the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Export Development Fund.
He said the partnership would focus on supporting exporters, improving their competitiveness and helping them expand into additional international markets.
Hafez also stressed the importance of utilizing idle production capacity and surplus output at Egyptian factories and directing a larger share of production toward export markets.
