CAIRO - 16 July 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said the government is moving ahead with plans to implement President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives on food security, media development, and expanding social protection, as he chaired the Cabinet's weekly meeting in New Alamein City on Thursday.
Madbouly said the government has already held three meetings to follow up on the president's directives announced during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Capital.
The first focuses on food security, with the Future of Egypt Sustainable Development Authority, in coordination with the Ministries of Supply and Agriculture, preparing a comprehensive plan to ensure the availability of essential commodities while stabilizing and reducing prices. He said the implementation plan will be presented to the Cabinet within days.
The second directive concerns media sector development, with preparations underway for the national media conference called for by President El Sisi to be held in early December. Madbouly said discussions have been held with the Minister of State for Information as well as heads of media and press institutions to develop an executive roadmap.
The third directive aims to expand social protection and healthcare coverage for irregular workers, freelancers, and Egyptians working abroad. The prime minister said the government is coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies to implement the initiative.
Madbouly also highlighted progress at the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, describing the recent installation of the second reactor pressure vessel as another milestone after the first unit's reactor vessel was installed earlier this year. He reiterated that the project is expected to begin generating electricity by the end of 2028, helping reduce Egypt's energy import bill.
Reviewing his recent inspection tour of agricultural and livestock projects, Madbouly said the visits underscored the role of both public and private investments in strengthening food security, increasing domestic production, and creating employment opportunities. He praised the quality of Egyptian agricultural and livestock products and called for greater private sector participation in operating and managing such projects.
The prime minister also reviewed the latest developments in New Alamein City, saying the city has witnessed higher occupancy rates, the delivery of thousands of housing units, and the launch of commercial projects, reflecting growing demand from residents and tourists alike. He commended the Ministry of Housing and all entities involved in implementing the city's development plans.
