Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended on Wednesday the reactor pressure vessel installation ceremony for Unit 2 of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, describing the project as a cornerstone of Egypt’s long-term energy strategy and a major step toward achieving the goals of Egypt Vision 2030.

Speaking during the ceremony, held under the theme Energy for the Future, Madbouly said the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is one of Egypt’s flagship national projects, contributing to comprehensive development while reinforcing the country’s regional and international standing.

He said recent global challenges have underscored the importance of Egypt’s strategy to diversify its energy mix and expand reliance on clean and sustainable energy sources, adding that energy is a key pillar of Egypt Vision 2030 and a driver of sustainable development and national security.

Madbouly also said President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi fulfilled Egypt’s long-standing ambition of establishing a peaceful nuclear power plant in El Dabaa.

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat said the plant will play a key role in reducing carbon emissions, mitigating the impacts of climate change, diversifying Egypt’s energy mix, strengthening energy security, and supporting the stability of the national electricity grid.

He added that the El Dabaa nuclear project reflects the depth of Egypt’s strategic partnership with Russia.

Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev thanked the Egyptian government and people for their trust, affirming that the El Dabaa project complies with the highest nuclear safety standards.

Likhachev said the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for Unit 2 represents another major milestone in the development of Egypt’s nuclear energy sector, marking continued progress in the implementation of the country’s first nuclear power plant.
