CAIRO – 8 July 2026: Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index increased by 7.8 percent in April 2026, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics announced on Wednesday.

According to preliminary CAPMAS data, the index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, reached 137.88 in April, up from 127.87 in March 2026.

CAPMAS said the figures are part of its preliminary monthly production index for manufacturing and extractive industries. The agency noted that it has updated the index methodology using the 2012/2013 base year and industrial activity classifications in line with ISIC Rev.4, alongside the monthly producer price index based on 2012/2013, starting from January 2020.

Several activities recorded growth during the month. The beverages industry index rose to 543.54 in April, compared with 454.58 in March, marking an increase of 19.57 percent. CAPMAS attributed the rise to the end of certain agricultural seasons.

The ready-made garments industry index also increased to 248.77 in April, up from 213.55 in March, recording growth of 16.49 percent, supported by stronger market demand.

On the other hand, the food products industry index fell to 170.07 in April from 181.24 in March, a decline of 6.16 percent, due to agricultural seasonality.

The pharmaceuticals, chemical, and medicinal products industry index also declined to 136.77 in April, compared with 144.58 in March, recording a 5.40 percent decrease in line with market needs.
