CAIRO - 6 July 2026: Egypt is expected to receive €1.5 billion, equivalent to around $1.72 billion, from the European Union in the coming days, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said.

The payment represents the first of two outstanding tranches under the EU’s €5 billion macro-financial assistance programme for Egypt.

Speaking during a press conference in the New Administrative Capital alongside European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica, Abdelatty said the remaining €3 billion would be released in two equal installments of €1.5 billion each.

He added that Cairo is targeting the receipt of the final tranche by the beginning of autumn.

The EU has already disbursed €2 billion under the programme, including an initial €1 billion payment in January 2025 and a second €1 billion installment earlier this year.

The macro-financial assistance forms part of the wider €7.4 billion financing package announced by the European Union in 2024, which includes €5 billion in concessional loans.
