CAIRO – 26 June 2026: After a 15-year hiatus, Egypt's state-owned El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company - affiliated with the Ministry of Public Business Sector- is being revived and redeveloped. A few days ago, the company signed an agreement with China's FAW Group to manufacture a range of vehicles under the "Nasr" brand.

El Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company was established in 1960 by presidential decree as part of an ambitious state-led industrial initiative. It began by assembling cars before gradually moving into full manufacturing.

After years of suspended production, the government has been working to revive the automotive industry and reduce reliance on imported vehicles. The company currently manufactures the Nasr Sky tourist bus, with a local component rate of 63.5%; the Nasr Star minibus, with a local component rate exceeding 70%; and an electric minibus, according to a statement from the Egyptian cabinet on Friday.

Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment that meet the highest international technical standards, the company is capable of producing a diverse range of models- both for El Nasr Automotive and for other brands, in partnership with local and international private-sector players.

The company's future plans include expanding production of modern vehicles, including electric buses, in support of the state's push toward sustainable transportation, green transformation, and emissions reduction, in line with global environmental standards, the statement added.

The automotive and components industry is a strategic priority sector, given its role in deepening local manufacturing, increasing added value, creating jobs, and boosting exports, the statement continued.

For the first time in decades, El Nasr Automotive Company turned a profit, recording net earnings of approximately EGP 35 million for fiscal year 2024–2025, the cabinet announced in a statement on 27 November 2025.
