CAIRO – 17 June 2026: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Évian on the sidelines of the G7 Summit.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said the meeting focused on bilateral relations between Egypt and Brazil, with El-Sisi expressing Egypt’s pride in the historic ties between the two countries and its commitment to strengthening cooperation and consultation across various fields.
El-Sisi also praised ongoing efforts to implement the strategic partnership agreement signed between Egypt and Brazil in November 2024, pointing to the notable growth in trade exchange between the two countries in recent years.
Lula welcomed the renewed meeting with El-Sisi and praised the momentum in Egypt-Brazil relations. He noted that Egypt is Brazil’s most important trade partner in Africa and highlighted the expanding cooperation between the two countries following Egypt’s accession to BRICS.
The Brazilian president also referred to the strategic partnership agreement and the free trade agreement between Egypt and Mercosur, stressing the need to continue efforts to increase bilateral trade, which has recently exceeded $5.5 billion.
The two leaders also discussed coordination in international forums. Lula expressed appreciation for Egypt’s efforts, led by El-Sisi, to restore stability in the Middle East, affirming Brazil’s support for Egypt’s approach based on sustainable, comprehensive and peaceful solutions to crises in the Middle East and Africa.
At the end of the meeting, both presidents agreed to continue coordination and consultations at all levels in the coming period.
