CAIRO - 13 May 2026: Egypt has denied reports claiming that the issuance of polymer banknotes of LE 10 and LE 20 will be stopped, with officials confirming that both polymer and paper notes will continue to circulate normally.

In a statement, the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) said that, in coordination with the Central Bank of Egypt, it was confirmed that no decision has been issued to halt the production of polymer banknotes or to return to printing paper versions of the same denominations.

The Central Bank of Egypt reiterated that polymer banknotes of LE 10 and LE 20 continue to be issued without interruption, stressing that they retain full legal tender status and are valid for all payments of goods and services.

It added that both polymer and paper banknotes currently in circulation remain in use side by side within the market, with no changes to current policies.

The IDSC urged the public not to be drawn into misinformation circulating online, emphasizing the importance of relying on official sources for accurate financial and economic updates.
