CAIRO - 11 May 2026: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly directed the Ministry of Finance to begin negotiations with electric vehicle (EV) dealers to secure the first batch of cars for government officials.
During a Sunday meeting with Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Madbouly emphasized that the transition aims to make the state's administrative apparatus a model for green transport.
In a statement, Cabinet Spokesman Mohamed El-Homsany said the plan focuses on rationalizing government spending and reducing the import bill for petroleum products.
The Finance Ministry presented a study showing significant savings from replacing traditional fuel vehicles with EVs.
The strategy includes two main pillars: expanding fast-charging infrastructure and securing digital systems against cyber risks.
Madbouly ordered continuous follow-up with relevant authorities to remove any obstacles to the implementation of the sustainable transport strategy.
