CAIRO - 7 May 2026: Egypt’s annual core inflation rate edged down to 13.8 percent in April 2026 from 14 percent in March, signaling a slight easing in underlying price pressures, according to Central Bank of Egypt data.

Monthly core inflation also moderated, with consumer prices rising 1.1 percent in April, compared with 2 percent in March and 1.2 percent in April 2025.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, is closely monitored as a key indicator of underlying inflation trends in the economy.

Separately, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said Egypt’s nationwide consumer price index reached 287.9 points in April, recording monthly inflation of 1.2 percent.

Annual headline inflation across the republic slowed marginally to 13.4 percent in April, compared with 13.5 percent in March, according to CAPMAS.

The statistics agency attributed the monthly rise in prices mainly to increases in several food and consumer goods categories.
