CAIRO - 7 May 2026: Egypt’s ready-made garment exports rose 10 percent year-on-year during the first quarter of 2026 to record $862 million, supported by stronger demand from European and U.S. markets and rising competitiveness of local manufacturers.
According to the Export Council for Ready-Made Garments, European markets led export growth during the January–March period, with shipments rising 21 percent to $379 million, compared with $313 million in the same quarter of 2025.
Europe accounted for around 44 percent of Egypt’s total garment exports in the first quarter, amid continued shifts in global supply chains and growing reliance on Egyptian products.
The United States ranked as the second-largest destination for Egyptian garment exports, with shipments increasing to $329 million from $289 million a year earlier, representing around 38 percent of total exports.
Arab markets accounted for 13.4 percent of total exports during the quarter.
At the country level, Turkey remained among the largest importers of Egyptian ready-made garments, with imports reaching $101 million, up from $96 million in the corresponding period last year.
Italy posted one of the strongest growth rates among export destinations, as Egyptian garment exports to the country more than doubled, surging 103 percent year-on-year to $24 million.
Product-wise, trousers remained the top export category, driven by continued demand for denim-based products. Exports of trousers climbed 16 percent to $332 million during the first quarter of 2026.
Women’s blouses and woven shirts came next, with exports increasing 12 percent year-on-year to $114 million, highlighting the sector’s expanding and diversified export mix.
