CAIRO - 6 May 2026: Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has directed telecom companies to roll out more affordable internet and mobile packages to support wider digital access across the country.

As part of the decision, telecom operators will offer a new fixed internet package priced at LE150, compared to the current lowest package at LE210. A new mobile package priced at LE5 will also be introduced, replacing the current minimum package that costs around LE13.

The regulator also announced that all government and educational websites will remain accessible free of charge on both fixed internet and mobile networks, even after users consume their internet bundles.

The decision comes alongside planned price adjustments for some telecom services, with increases ranging between 9 percent and 15 percent, taxes included. Meanwhile, prices for fixed and mobile voice calls, recharge cards, and e-wallet services will remain unchanged.

The NTRA said the move is aimed at maintaining the sustainability of telecom services while improving network quality and efficiency. The authority added that telecom companies need greater investment capacity to expand and modernize infrastructure amid rising demand for internet services.

According to the regulator, fixed internet consumption in Egypt increased by 36 percent over the past year, placing growing pressure on telecom networks and increasing the need to align pricing with actual service costs.

The authority attributed the pricing changes to several economic pressures, including exchange rate fluctuations, higher electricity and fuel costs, rising operating expenses, and increased labor and network deployment costs.

Telecom operators have also been impacted by higher global shipping costs, supply chain disruptions, and rising prices for electronic components and telecom equipment used in network expansion and upgrades.

The NTRA expects the changes to help companies strengthen network performance and improve service quality, while continuing to monitor operators’ compliance with quality standards and protecting consumer rights as Egypt advances its digital transformation plans.
