Syria forms joint business council with Egypt to deepen economic ties

CAIRO - 3 May 2026: Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal Al-Shaar, on Sunday issued a decision to form the Syrian side of the Egyptian-Syrian Business Council, in a step aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.
 
The council’s Syrian side will be chaired by Ghassan Karim, with Ahmed Ragheb Agha and Mohammad Basel Radwan Samaqiya serving as deputy chairmen. Wael Khair Al-Nan has been appointed executive director, Ammar Abu Al-Laban as secretary, and Ayman Al-Hafiri as head of public relations, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.
 
Under the decision, the council will operate in accordance with the bylaws governing Syria’s joint business councils with other countries.
 
In a related development, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, and Minister of Industry Khaled Al-Hashem held talks on Sunday with Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani, with Al-Shaar also taking part.
 
The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the economic and trade fields, as well as addressing regional security issues, in a way that supports stronger ties between Syria and Egypt.
